HOW I WORK - DESIGN CONSULTANCY SERVICE
Initial visit and consultation
I will arrange a preliminary visit to discuss your garden and to explain in greater detail about the way I work. This meeting is a time for me to listen to your ideas and aspirations for your garden - and the budget you have in mind - and for you to assess my capabilities, see my portfolio. If appropriate, I will share with you my "first impressions" which would subsequently enable me to formulate a brief on which to base a quotation for at least the first stage of any design work.
For this preliminary meeting I charge £50 per hour to cover my time, professional opinion and mileage. However, this fee is deductable from any subsequent work you commission from me. Normally, such a meeting takes no longer than an hour.
Site Survey
If appointed, an accurate survey of your existing garden is normally necessary before I can start the design process. This will be undertaken either by me or, in the case of a more complex garden, by a land surveyor. The survey will show your house, boundaries, existing features and levels required for the subsequent preparation of the new design for your garden.
Outline Plan
My design for your garden will consist of a hand-coloured outline plan together with artistic impressions of how your new garden will look. This outline plan will act as a discussion document, allowing me to present my ideas, talk through any changes you may wish to make and will act as the "blueprint" for any further design work or any phasing of the project.
Setting-out Plan and Construction Drawings
The Setting-out Plan will be the drawing from which the contractor will work, accurately calculate the cost and, on your approval, set out and build your new garden. Construction drawings for specific features (i.e. water features or any hard landscaping required) will also be prepared with the Setting-out Plan.
